The possibility of using film thermophones as a receiver of acoustic signals has been studied, а thermophone is an electrothermal transducer, on the active element of which an alternating electrical voltage is converted into a sound wave. It is shown that on the active element of the film thermophone, provided that the system of electrical power supply of the system is maintained by direct current, it is possible to convert an acoustic signal into an electrical signal. Thus, for the first time it was proved that the thermophone is a reversible physical system, like other electroacoustic transducers often used in acoustics. The acoustic signal receiver obtained on the basis of a film thermophone is a linear inertialess transducer of acoustic signals capable of operating in the sound and ultrasonic frequency ranges. In the course of the work, expressions were obtained for calculating: the optimal thickness of the active element; frequencies of the upper cutoff of the operating frequency range; sensitivity of the acoustic signal transducer; device time constant. The active element of the device can be made of pure metal, for example, by sputtering. The choice of metal for the manufacture of the active element can be carried out based on the technological capabilities of the production base of the enterprise and economic indicators. There are no moving mechanical elements in electrothermal sound receivers, due to which the device is insensitive to external vibration influences. The mass and overall dimensions of electrothermal sound receivers are small. There are additional opportunities to minimize these device parameters, which, in turn, will allow the use of electrothermal sound receivers in miniature devices of radioelectronic equipment. It can also be shown that with an appropriate design of the receiving element, such sound receivers can be used to record acoustic fields excited in liquid media.
