IMPROVING THE ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE OF DIESEL INSTALLATIONS OF SHIPS BY SWITCHING TO ALTERNATIVE FUELS

Annotation

The article notes that the fleet is a significant consumer of fuels and a source of air pollution. At the same time, the problem of reducing harmful emissions is inextricably linked with the problem of finding alternative fuels for diesel engines of ships. An example of the use of alternative fuels in the maritime industry for these purposes is given. The following alternative fuels are considered: liquefied natural gas (LNG), methanol, ammonia, hydrogen and biofuels. An analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the considered fuels is provided, as well as an assessment of their prospects. The article also reflects the plans of the world community to convert diesel installations of ships to the fuels in question. The concepts of their creation and their economic comparison are given.
