PROBLEMS OF CREATING STEAM TURBINES FOR COMPACT NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS OF SHIPS WITH ELECTRIC PROPULSION

Annotation

The issues of reducing the weight and size indicators of marine steam turbines for driving electric current generators are considered. The influence of two parameters is investigated. These are two important factors affecting the weight, size and economic indicators of the turbine unit: an increase in the rotor speed with a simultaneous increase in the frequency of the current generated in the electric generator; increase in pressure in the condenser. The principal possibility of creating a compact steam turbine with a power of 24 MW with a rotor speed of 8000 rpm to drive an electric current generator with a frequency of 400 Hz is shown. Increasing the rotor speed can significantly improve weight and size compared to the generator drive turbine with a frequency of 50 Hz. A number of problems in the implementation of the project of a compact power plant for ships with electric propulsion were noted.
