COOLING EFFICIENCY RESEARCH OF STERN TUBE BEARINGS

Annotation

About the calculations of heavily loaded bearings of water lubricated stern tube bearing system, there is limited information. The use of tabular values of the main characteristics of fluid friction sliding bearings in the reference literature is limited to the values of the length to diameter ratio – no more than 1,5. The article proposes the calculation of stern tube bearings for shaft diameters over 900 mm. To determine the temperatures and water flow in stern tube bearings lubricated with water, formulas were obtained for calculating the values of circulating flows and heat balance equations in the forward and aft stern tube bearings and mixing chambers of circulating flows. A formula was also obtained for calculating the maximum temperature in the lubrication gaps of the forward and aft stern tube bearings based on the heat transfer equations, taking into account heat transfer to the shaft. A system of equations has been compiled. A numerical example of the calculation is given.
